Hot and cold

After a cold, mostly dry, April  the warmth arrived last week. Not as hot as some places but very welcome.

We’re on schedule to complete the tasks we set ourselves. The arch is up, the summerhouse reroofed, the iris bed planted, the last section of the prairie garden almost prepared to receive the trays of seed raised plants.

So, what is looking good as we approach mid May? Tulips, of course. The dark and the light, hot colours and cold.

I love them all – from the top Shirley, Queen of the Night, Angelique, Spring Green, Menton. Next year I want to have many more. I particularly like this combination near the kitchen- Menton tulips with an  unknown  red parrot tulip we inherited

In the new bed this combination of Anemanthele and Polemonium Bressingham Purple pleases me

The Pulmonarias have been good this year making a ribbon through the border.

They should last long enough to hand over to the aquilegias and azaleas in this bed, all of which are now in bud. Such a promising time of year.
