What an interesting season this Spring- into -early-Summer is. After a wet winter, this part of the Marches has been quite dry for several weeks now and cool. North winds have been the order of the day. I think the effect had been to hold the flowers for longer. Things were late to flower- even now there is just a single rose- but there have been no drenching rains to spoil things. Yet.
The garden has a peak in this two week May into June period. The Irises are out. Usually the large flowered clematis are out but they are still to come. The azaleas and rhododendrons are out and thousands of aquilegias thread through the borders, gradually taking over from forget me nots as the ribbon that ties the planting together.
